Here we go again. Another crip birth story. When I saw the previews for the Inside Edition story about a disabled mom proclaiming “half a woman gives birth” I was filled with dread. Sandwiched between “Paula’s Broken Heart” and a story about buying lingerie, things were not looking good.
As it turned out, the story was not as bad as feared. Granted I did start out fearing the worst, so anything better than that was going to aleivate my fears. Aside from the characterization of Ms. Siggens as “brave” and claiming she is the only woman with her condition (sacral agenesis) to give birth (not true), the story was not too bad. Considering the source it could have been much worse. The clip was peppered with typical supercrip drama “she climbed the stairs by herself,” “nothing stops her, not even a curb and a puddle,” but for the most part showed a mother with a disability raising two children.
