This time with a story about little people on Monday Febraury 27, 2006. Again it could have been worse. The story focused on the Pouliot family where the parents and children are all little people. It was one of these “my gosh, these people have children” and they cook, sew, work and parent, with a sort voyeuristic/incredulistic tenor. While it is nice to see them showing a family doing the things a family does, and talking about accommodations in the work place, there were troubling aspects to the story. Ms. Pouliot works for a law firm, who has provided accommodations to her. Rather than discussing the accommodations as something Ms. Pouliot is entitled to, or describing them in the context of civil rights, Inside Edition portrayed the accommodations as a charitable gift to Ms. Pouliot. That sort of tenor was present throughout the entire story.

Sorry you felt that way. I as non little person have been amazed to see how little people get through their day. Sure it might be a bit voyeuristic HOWEVER I am always curious to see how other families do things, little or not. I have seen things on other programs (not this one perhaps) that show how incredably harder these folks have to work JUST TO ACCOMPLISH their day. This is not a put down just a statement of fact. An example is that although I have to go to the grocerystore just as any other mom some people have to work so much harder and I am humbled and often ashamed that I am the one grumbling. As far as accomodations, these are some of the easier ones to incorporate into a business and its is the law. I didn’t feel like it was a company gift.
