With Pride.

Disability Pride is at the heart of our mission at Easterseals SoCal. We're championing the message that disability is not something to be ashamed of or hidden. It's an integral part of human diversity to be celebrated and embraced. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many people who have shared their story, including our disability influencers, whose stories appear below. By sharing their journeys and experiences, they're helping us amplify the #DisabilityPride movement. Together, we're challenging many stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive society.

I’ve teamed up with Easterseals SoCal to celebrate Disability Pride and share my story. I am proud of who I am, and my disability, and I say it, share it, and celebrate it every day.

Happy Disability Pride Month! I’m thrilled to be partnering with Easterseals Southern California to celebrate disability as identity.

I lost my eyesight as a young adult because of an autoimmune disease, and for many years, I didn’t know what to do with my life. Would I be able to work again? Cook again? Be independent again?  It turns out, the answer is a definite resounding YES, I CAN 🙌

Today I’m proud to say that I’m
- an internationally renowned chef
- a business owner and operator
- a wife and doggie mom, and
- an advocate for those living with disabilities

I’m partnering ‪@EastersealsSouthernCalifornia to say that I’m proud to be unstoppable, adventurous, and disabled. Limitations are often perceptions and not realities. Visit www.disabilitypride.com to learn more and share your #DisabilityPride!

When my condition became disabling, I felt like everything important in my life was being stripped away. Thanks to incredible representation in the disability community, I began to see that my future was as big as I dared to dream. I had disabled friends with master’s degrees, setting their goals big and achieving them. I saw the strength in the disability community that grew stronger within me every day.

I am proud to have returned to school, earning two associate degrees and transferring to my university to complete my bachelor’s degree. I am proud to be the founding member of Queerly Disabled, a local meetup group for LGBTQ+ disabled folks looking for community. I’ve found lifelong friends who help build each other up.

I am a student, a leader, and I am PROUD to be disabled. I am honored to be a part of @eastersealssocal ‘s campaign “Disability is Not a Dirty Word” to shed light on the full lives that disabled people live. We are an incredibly strong community that has overcome so much, and we have the determination to achieve our goals.
